Aurora Aksnes earliest musical memory is that of locating a piano in her attic and becoming fascinated by the sounds it would create. Parents May-Britt as well as Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to study music, not for a career or hobby but to grow. To do this she began to write music that was her own. Her influences include renowned writers Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan along with her affinity with Bjork's style. The singer decided to perform her music in public when her mom suggested they might help others not gain fame through her music but instead help everyone else realize their own importance and how they impact the world. Her first piano lesson was when she was just 6 years old and was writing her first song at the age of nine. Family members didn't even know that she had begun until fourteen. Aurora is not something she set out to achieve. Aurora says that she likes to compose songs. She says that music is her favorite way of feeling anything.
